BSG Timeline for Elections 2021

President & Vice President Debate

Treasurer Debate

February 10th:Students can start filling out the candidacy form on MyBrockport with their information and letter of interests for elected positions. The Election Commission will start reviewing these applications to get them ready to be added to the MyBrockport endorsement form.

February 15th:The MyBrockport form where students can endorse candidates will be made available to all students. As more people hand in their letter of interests via the form they will be added in a timely manner (within 24 hours) to the MyBrockport endorsement form. 

February 15th-February 28th, 2021:All Brockport students can go in and start endorsing candidates. The Election Commission will continue to accept candidacy forms throughout this time. Candidates can start letting people know they intend to run at that time and use the shareable links on the my.brockport.edu page to get people to endorse them. 

February 28th: The Election Commission will take the time to go through all the forms and officially announce who has achieved candidacy. 

The week of March 1st, 2021:The Election Commission will have the preliminary meeting with all candidates this week and after all meetings have been complete, campaigning will start. 

The weeks of March 15th through April 9th 2021: Campaigning and virtual debates will occur giving candidates time to properly campaign. The timing of the virtual debates will depend on the schedules of all those who achieve candidacy. 

March 22nd, 2021:If a President or Vice President candidate drops out of the race after this date, the entire ticket is out of the race. 

April 12th through April 17th, 2021:New date for Elections. Voting will be open from midnight on April 12th until 11:59 on April 17th. Results will be announced at the beginning of the business day on the following Monday. 

April 19th:Election results will be announced.

Position Overview The President is one of three Executive members. They oversee the general organization of BSG. They sit on multiple committees for SUNY Brockport and can delegate work as needed.
Job Purpose This position exists to carry out the vision of the organization in collaboration with vice president by managing the success of the overall organization.
Hours 15 hours per week during the academic year
Supervisor SUNY Brockport President/ BSG Advisor 
Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Create and execute a plan to build a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
  • Plan with the Vice President on the vision and outcomes desired for their term year.
  • Engage in weekly meetings with directors to review operations, give constructive feedback, help the organization reach its goals, and plan.
  • Help the organization transition from one administration to the next.
  • Sitting on Brockport’s standing and Ad-hoc committees
  • Meet with BSG advisor to gauge the direction of BSG
  • Sit and represent the student voice on major Brockport committees
  • Work with the College President to gauge campus climate, and align us with SUNY Brockport’s vision to “Build a Better Brockport”
  • Collaborate with the Judicial branch to update the constitution.
  • Constantly look for ways to make sure that the organization and all three branches of government are working in tandem, and not working against one another.
  • Look for ways to create a nominating committee
  • Deliver Annual State of Campus report
  • Find creative ways to fulfill the EDI Requirements
  • Support student groups
  • Appoint students to committees, organizations, jobs
  • Meet with major college stakeholders

Position Overview The Vice President is one of three Executive members. They are the Chair of the BSG Senate, as well as the presiding officer of BSG in the absence of the president.
Job Purpose This position exists to carry out the vision of the organization in collaboration with president by managing the success of each department.
Hours 15 hours per week during the academic year

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and execute a plan to build a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
  • Plan with the president on the vision and outcomes desired for their term year.
  • Engage in bi-weekly meetings with directors to review operations, give constructive feedback, and plan.
  • Preside over the senate as the final voting officer.
  • Help the organization transition from one administration to the next
  • Sitting on Brockport’s standing and Ad-hoc committees
  • Meet with BSG advisor to gauge the direction of BSG
  • Work with senators to create, change, or dismantle legislation
  • Work with the College President to gauge campus climate, and align us with SUNY Brockport’s vision to “Build a Better Brockport”

Position Overview The Treasurer is one of three Executive members. They are the Chair of the Club Budget and Resources Committee.
Job Purpose This position exists to carry out the vision of the organization in collaboration with president by managing the success of each department.
Hours 15 hours per week during the academic year
Supervisor BSG Business Manager
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and execute a plan to build a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
  • Support and assist clubs by keeping tabs on their activity.
  • At the end of the year, determine a budget for each club.
  • With this, the Treasurer must also keep track of the tier points for each club, which are rewarded in differentiating amounts according to different activities.
  • Sit on various college committees, mostly pertaining to conversations about money, and discussions about fees and budgets.
  • Be responsible for communication between BSG and clubs.
  • Approve of social media event flyers that clubs use.
  • Approve of any purchases made within BSG, whether that may be within BSG itself or from clubs.
  • Engage in bi-weekly meetings with directors to review operations, give constructive feedback, and plan.
Necessary Qualifications
  • Completed at least 2 semesters SUNY Brockport
  • GPA of 2.0 or more
  • Current student enrolled in at least 2 credits during campaign and 6 credits throughout the term

Position Overview A senator is one of twelve voting members of the BSG Senate. 8 senators are elected by the Brockport Student Body and the other 4 are Club Council Senators who are elected by Club Councils. 
Job Purpose This position exists to carry out the legislative responsibilities of BSG. Each Senator should have some group of student the set out to represent, such as On Campus or Off Campus, etc.
Hours 5 hours per week during the academic year
Supervisor BSG Vice President 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Sit on committees that meet weekly to help connect with Brockport students.
  • Vote during Senate the way your constituents would like you to vote.
  • Help the organization transition from one administration to the next
  • Work on projects that would help the student body at large or improve general BSG function.
  • Work with other senators and BSG VP to create, change, or dismantle legislation.
  • Run for or help elect the Vice Chair of the Senate, this position is next in line to become Vice President
Necessary Qualifications
  • Completed at least one semester at SUNY Brockport.
  • GPA of 2.0 or more
  • Current student enrolled in at least 2 credits during campaign and at least 6 throughout the term.
  • Must be able to attend training in the Fall and Spring semester
